The Not So Scary Facts about Spark Kom-BOO-cha

It’s that time of year when the scary sugar-packed candy, treats and sodas start lining the aisles and checkout shelves in supermarkets… Yikes - hands up if you too have fallen guilty to swiping a pack or two last minute, crumbling to the peer pressure of big brands all in the name of Halloween? 

Fear no more, your trusty neighbourhood brewers at Spark Kombucha are on hand to help you enjoy a treat - without the trick! We keep the scary sweeteners, hard to pronounce additives and terrifyingly un-natural ingredients out of our small batch, handcrafted recipes. Our brews are RAW-some and unfiltered, meaning they’re alive and thriving with friendly living (not zombie) bacteria and probiotics created during a traditional fermentation. You’ll find no surprise sugars or gastly ingredients creeping up on you this season when you take a sip of our bubbles with benefits!

Here are 4 of our favourite Not-So-Scary facts about Spark Kombucha:

FACT #1 – Way Less Sugar

Kombucha gets its start with tea, water, a SCOBY, and sugar. Each batch of Spark Kombucha is brewed with just enough sugar to feed the live cultures, yeasts, and kick off the fermentation process. But, over the course of fermentation the sugar content is reduced dramatically as it’s metabolized by the cultures. Spark’s fermentation process has been stretched out to a minimum of three weeks, followed by a week of flavour infusion. 

Adding an extra week or two to the fermentation process not only creates Spark’s unique dry taste, it also reduces the final sugar content. Once the kombucha has been flavoured and is bottled, the sugar content is down to just 4g (20 calories) per 355ml serving in our Mainstay flavours. Compare that to the 30g+ you’ll consume in a can of pop – yikes!

 

FACT #2 – All Natural Ingredients

At Spark we always use natural, organic ingredients to flavour our kombucha - we guarantee you'll be able to pronounce all the ingredients in our kombucha! So, when you’re drinking a bottle of Ginger Berry you know it was flavoured with real ginger pieces and a herbal infusion of dried, organic blueberries. That’s why we claim our brews contain “bubbles with benefits”! 

Most of our kombucha is infused or cold brewed, meaning that we extract the flavour without needing any additional sweetening and we do not flavour with essential oils. The artisanal brewing process of kombucha means that each sip comes packed with acids, bacteria and enzymes to help support microbiome and digestive health. Each flavour is naturally infused with organic botanicals, which means Spark Kombucha is naturally not so sweet, healthy AND delicious!⁠

 

FACT #3 – Fresh, Real Flavours

You are what you eat and Spark Kombucha believes in serving only the very best bubbles with benefits!⁠⁠ That's why we choose to brew using only organic ingredients. By brewing with organic ingredients, we’re supporting healthy farmers, healthy consumers and a healthier planet - because organic agriculture feeds the earth, not just the consumer! 


We use the terms “cultured” and “raw” and that's because our kombucha is literally alive and living with probiotics, a.k.a. Bubbles with Benefits! Raw kombucha, like Spark Kombucha, contains beneficial bacteria created during fermentation. That’s the good stuff which helps to support gut and digestive health. You’ll find the raw kombucha in the cooler section of the grocery store or cafes because the cool temperatures ensure the fermentation is under wraps; it’s basically asleep until it's time to drink up!⁠
